Our Vision:

"To create a purposeful educational environment where children of all abilities can learn and thrive"

Phonics

At North View we understand that phonics is the foundation to reading and spelling and we aim to develop these vital reading skills for all pupils.

Many of our pupils have had limited success in the past and have varying degrees of phonic knowledge and for the various resources available to schools. It can be difficult to fully adopt a scheme as our children's learning can take different paths and many have already dipped into phonic schemes in their previous placements.

At North View our predominant programme in use is the DFEs Letters and Sounds where children's learning is divided into phases. For children still requiring letter sound recognition or who need sounds embedding we find that Jolly Phonics is a useful tool. Here a multi-sensory approach is used with an action accompanying the sound in order to aid recognition.

The TES scheme is also in use which provides opportunities for those children who have needed particular aspects of phonics repeating. This is particularly useful for children whose basic skills need practicing, reinforcing and ultimately embedding and for those who still require support in Key Stage Two.
