Our Vision:

"To create a purposeful educational environment where children of all abilities can learn and thrive"

English

We have recently changed the way we teach English at North View and have adopted an approach that puts the pupils at the centre of their learning.

The main principles of ‘Power Teaching’ empower pupils to learn from each other, encouraging team work and collaboration. Positive praise and a rewards system encourages participation and motivates pupils in their learning. As research has shown, children retain more when they have been actively involved in their learning and this is at the centre of our teaching of English.

Pupils are streamed into Power Literacy and Steps to Success groups which are timetabled for daily ninety minute sessions incorporating reading, writing and regular spoken English opportunities. Independent writing becomes the main focus towards the end of the week and this is linked to the text that pupils have been studying, providing opportunities to put into practice what they have learned.

With regards to content, the national curriculum continues to be followed with the teaching of phonics being incorporated into the Steps to Success sessions on a daily basis.

Although we are early in the early stages, we are very proud of the efforts of our pupils and the way in which they have adapted to the changes and are learning together.
